I have 2 IPS LED 1080p 60hz displays running off a single GTX 970 3.5 gb card. One is LG the other Asus and they both work really well and looks great. I went with IPS LED because I really dig on color replication and I just like the way it looks.

I use this setup as such: One is my main the other has hardware diagnostics ie open hardware, afterburner, a minecraft server ,and mumble client . Sometimes when I am making videos or streaming I use the second monitor for Xsplit.

Now I want to upgrade to either a 3rd monitor and maybe do some surround gaming because with 2 it just does not look good, or I want to replace this setup entirely and get something that drives 120 or 144hz to see about adding some smoothness to some games that I play that go over 60fps w/o vsync.

What do you think would be a more economically sound option? Replacing 2 27in 60hz with either 1 or 2 27inch 120hz + or just grabbing the third 1080p 60hz? The third monitor would have almost no daily use unless I was surround gaming and bear in mind I paid around 250-270 for these monitors each. I would love to try and grab something at a higher refresh rate but not if it breaks the bank. (anything over 350 a monitor is too much)

What say you?

With a 970 you aren't going to be achieving 120fps ultra settings in most modern games but if you might be able to upgrade to a second 970 in the future or you just want to play older games such as CSGO then a 144hz monitor would be perfect.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I would get a main high refresh 1440p 144hz ips panel ( if you have that kind of $ ) and keep one other one for streaming .

Otherwise get a third panel if you think you will use widescreen gaming .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

If I grab a a 144hz and keep one or both of the 60hz displays as secondary will the new 144hz display run at 144hz with the others at 60hz?
