Hello, I recently bought a new PC and installed it and it's ok but my problem is my old one. I kept it because it was working good and i wanted to give it to my parents so we could have two PCs in house. So, i bought a new Noctua NH-U12P SE2 CPU cooler too expand it's life as i can with better cooling (before it had it's manufacturer's cooler from 8-9 years ago so not too good). This old is as i write below:

PC Case: NZXT Lexa blackline
Motherboard: ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
RAM:  VS2GB800D2 x2 (4GB in sum)
Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 8800GT 512MB Alpha Dog
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 550W

My problem now is that the new noctua cooler i bought in this motherboard is facing upside-down and turn it to blow air to the top. Is this going to mess up with my airflow in any case and what would you do in this situation? I still can change the new cooler with someone else if i have to. Below is an image to have a look too.

I run my Noctua NHU14s in that configuration (I tried it both ways) and my temps are slightly lower since I have two top fans in exhaust.

As long as that round thing at the top is an exhaust vent of some kind it shouldn't make a huge difference.

Is there a fan up top?

The thing is i can't turn it around because the motherboard's base screws are like this | and my fans are like this -- with pressing air up but i had in mind when i bought it that the fans where gonna facing in side so they could pressing air behind the case with the rear fan helping and that's why i posted this issue because i'm comfused :P

Sorry had to do a ton of work stuff and missed your reply.

As spwath said you will be just fine with the fan setup.

If you wanted to put the time in you could try to Velcro/zip-tie tidy some of those cables so that the fans have fewer obstructions, but that's probably not necessary.

Is 80mm fan only option for top? Because you could make rear intake and have only top exhaust. But with only single 80mm exhausting its not worth it. Your current setup is good. I also run U14S with horizontal orientation (and 2 fans).

  • 4 months later...

I do have to point out that there is a LOT of messy cables. If you clean that up a bit, do some cable management; you will get better airflow. Which means lower temps!

I know about the cables but i can't do anythin about that but from the day i powered it on the only thing i've changed was the sidw fan from pull in to push out and i think now goes even better but a hell of lot noise dude it sounds like mini airport in my room...
