Galaxy S6 Active landing as AT&T exclusive in US tomorrow

For those who think that the relatively small battery and stereotypically fragile all-glass design imposed with the S6 and S6 Edge won't suit their needs, this looks like a compelling option, if you don't mind the aesthetics, and you have access to AT&T.

Samsung's Galaxy S6 broke cover last month and today AT&T revealed its exclusive grip on the rugged device. The IP-68 rated dustproof and water and shock resistant handset packs a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display that touts a whopping 577 PPI to handle your swipes through Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop). Inside, a 64-bit Octa-core processor and 32GB of internal storage do the heaving lifting with 16-megapixel rear-facing and 5-megapixel front-facing cameras for photo duties.

In addition to staying dry in depths of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, the S6 Active also packs in a beefy 3,500mAh battery. That's significantly larger than the battery inside the regular Galaxy S6. And yes, when it does run down, you can juice up with wireless charging accessories or make use of the Fast Charging option to charge to 50 percent in around half an hour.

If you're looking to nab one, you'll be able to do so on June 12th in either Camo White, Camo Blue or Gray. Making the phone your daily driver will set you back $23.17/month with 30 device payments on Next 24, $28.96/month at 24 payments on Next 18, or $34.75/month at 20 payments on Next 12 -- all without a down payment. For the regular two-year commitment, you can expect to hand over $200, or if you're looking to skip the paperwork entirely, $695 is the off-contract price.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 active delivers the durability you need without compromising the innovation you want.

  • The IP68 rating ensures a dustproof and water-resistant design.
  • Activity Zone features a compass, flashlight, stopwatch, and more—all on one application.
  • Immerse yourself in the 5.1" Quad HD Super AMOLED display.
  • Get a perfect picture with the 16MP rear-facing camera and 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera.
  • Power up with the 3,500 mAh battery, featuring built-in wireless charging capability (wireless charging pad sold separately).

I wonder how much watered down it'll feel versus the standard Galaxy S6, I've been told by many people that the Active versions aren't that great.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Well it seems to be a good phone overhaul but did they ever confirm about the larger battery or not really? Ive heard some say its 3000MaH and some say is 3500MaH which doesnt make sense since they would pretty much saying that "The note line is DEAD" :P simply because they usually have the larger batteries amongst the following models of S line.

I had the S4 Active and I liked it. It never felt watered down hardware wise (if anything, improved), but couldn't say the same about OTA update support.

Yep, it's 3500. http://www.att.com/cellphones/samsung/galaxy-s6-active.html?source=IC2Y0H0000000000L&wtExtndSource=galaxy-s6-active

Also the Note line is not dead, not that many people will want the S6 Active, many are waiting for the Note 5 and if it's anywhere near decent would take it over the S6A, even with the same size battery. I would.

-snip-

Well since Samsung decided to allegadly discart the UHD resolution in the Note 5 maybe theyr aiming for flexible QHD Amoled Displays like i read a few months ago where they would produce foldable displays for the N5 and S7 :P. And apperantly they want to give the N5 a 4100MaH battery.

I wonder who thought a UHD phone would be a good idea in the first place O.o

xD apperantly Sharp and ZTE did. But i highly doubt a possible ZTE Star 3 with a 4K display to be able to reproduce the vibrance, contrast and quality of OLED displays and even UHD Tv's from last year. Of course if it was a 4K OLED Quantum in a smartphone Xp then its a different story, but unless they fit in a 10nm cpu and a 4300MaH battery they wont last for more than a day.

If only they had one in a solid color.

Agreed. I don't like the camo. The blue of the S4 Active was soooo nice :P
