Hi guys,

So I just discovered something that is part stupidity (I think) and part luck that I had not fried something on my GPU and I need your help.

So I got myself a 970 strix about a month ago, until recently I was using GPUTweak to run my oc at 1400 and 7800mhz on the memory. Its small but adds a decent increase and most importantly "safe". That was until GPUTweak decided to stop working and unless I use a version below 2.7 it will fail to start, 2.6.2 works fine no problem. So I moved to using the more well known Afterburner. It is a good program and I set it to how I had my GPUTweak. + 147 on the clock to give me a 1400 overclock and + 800 on the memory...

It was unstable and I could not work it out, Afterburner would only let me overclock half the speed of GPUTweak stable... That was until I finally noticed the report in  Unigine engine. On GPU tweak a +500 mhz overclock on the memory only reports as 250 increase in Unigine however runninng + 500 in Afterburner = the full 500 increase reported in Unginie.

The unstable overclock was because of this, I was effectively doubling my memory clock without realizing, I thought they worked the same (stupidity part). But after further testing a +800mhz overclock in GPUTweak works the exact same and reports the same score as a +400 in afterburner.

I wanted to get someone's opinion in the know how, is this right? Or is something not set up right.

Edit: So I am a retard. Being DDR Double data rate I know how it reports half the real or effective amount. That said I was too stupid to realize the difference in programs. GPUTweak shows and tweaks it as the effective amount, 7000 + 800 mhz = the 3900 reported. However Afterburner Shows and tweaks it as the single value displaying 3500 as default with the overclock applying to both, 3500 + 400 mhz = 7800 effective. I was dump and in my haste to get back to gaming did not fully research Afterburner. As embarrassed as I am ill leave this up here if someone is ever dumb enough to do the same and finds it via google.
