Here are the questions i'm stuck on:

 

1:

 

Alkanes form a Homologous Series.

Homologous means that they have similar properties and structure, differing only by _____

 

 

2:

 

A mixture of hydrocarbons can be seperated by Fractional Distillation. This is because they have different ______

I'm 14 and I've never learned this before but this will probably pop up in my Honors Biology next year. (I'll be a freshman in September can't wait)

2) It looks like it's to do with distilling mixtures with different boiling points by way of how high they rise in the chamber, things with lower boiling points naturally going higher up where it's cooler. the first one is maybe goal, what formed it

maybe even the properties of it, like if we compare a birds wings and a humans arms

1. They probably want you to answer length (of the carbon chain), though that's actually only correct for unbranched alkanes. More generally it would be the number of carbon atoms (with attached hydrogen atoms).
