Emergancy! (need help)

Ever since I installed my new PSU my PC powers on for 1-2 seconds, then off, then boots normally. Today I was installing (dirt cheap China) adapters to fit my soundcard, and when I fire up my PC I heard a bang and it smelled of smoke :S :S

I have no idea what got fried, but now my PC only powers on for 1-2 seconds, like before, but can't get any further because it just keeps repeating those 1-2 seconds!

How f*cked am I?! Is my whole PC fried? I've got over 3k$ in it, so I'm scared shitless atm

I tried using a diffrent PSU as you might see in the video, but no luck. Both of my GPUs seem to light up and spin their fans, so hopefully they're OK.

Im not an expert but u shoulf take one part off at time and see which of it is broken.

That might be a good idea! Not sure what I can remove except my graphics cards though..

What is the wattage of your new PSU? It may be too little.

 

Re-install your old PSU, if everything works fine, the problem is your new PSU.

If you re-install your old PSU, and it doesn't work, something's fried.

(this is assuming your old PSU works fine)

Pls also specify brand and model, wattage only may not be sufficient info.

Try looking for damaged capacitors on the motherboard (easy) and inside the PSU (little bit harder). If one is evidently burst, that'll be the source of the problem.

PSU is not the problem. Once I removed my soundcard the PC was back to normal like when it worked.

Try to update drivers and BIOS etc.

Maybe your soundcard does not like your build, maybe your adapters are faulty.

Try to find out what happened, once you have, I'm sure you can demand a replacement. If the replacement doesn't work, I think you can demand your money back.

It's hard to update when the PC won't turn on That's my whole issue. I've used the soundcard before with no issues, it's the cheap adapters that fucked stuff up, I'm just wondering how bad it might be basically

No, as I`ve said I took it out straight away, but the PC never boots up, just loops on 1 or 2 seconds of power/lighting.

That means something must be fried. Either the Mobo or the CPU is screwed.

Unbuild your whole PC, take a damn good look at every part of every component.

Do a test build outside the case on the motherboard box or something, no case.

I could do that, but I'm a PC noob, so I'm a bit scared to f*ck something up. Do you think any of those you mentioned could cause the symptoms though?

Make sure you're grounded, and it'll be pretty hard to f**k something up. Never know until you try. Touch the plugged in-but-off PSU every few minutes, put the motherboard on cardboard or its original box, don't stand on carpet, don't wear socks.

 

You're going to have to test components at some point anyway if this doesn't start magically working. Imo easiest way to do that is out of the case.
