Buy a ground loop isolator. They're fairly cheap

It makes a deep buzzing sound when its not playing anything. Is this normal?

The buzzing happens even when the receiver is off. Will this still fix it?

It could be an old cable. I had this problem a while ago.

you are probably right, my cable looks all rusty and corroaded....

IDK why i didnt think that would be a problem

Nope, didnt fix it. It doesnt buzz unless the other end of the cable is plugged into the receiver (even if the receiver is off)

So i guess a ground loop isolater would fix it.

Yar matie

+1 Sounds like a ground loop.

Touch the ground of the cable to the ground of the reciever. (so, the sleeve, the outside connection). Does it buzz?

Then, unplug the reciever. Does it still do it?

Since you ordered it, try it.  But the cable must *always* fit tight on both ends and all the connections must be clean and free of corrosion.  This sort of buzzing is usually the result of a generally crappy connection somewhere or a bad cable.

It could be my receive r. The connection is not exactly fresh. How should I Clean it?

Unplug it first.  I like a product called "DeOxIt" for most electrical cleaning but some careful work with rubbing alcohol and cue tips can do wonders too.  A VERY light polishing of the female ends (back of receiver and sub) with extra fine sand paper can also help but you want to be careful not to remove any electroplating.  Most connectors are gold plated (the good ones anyway) because gold does not corrode.  In that case it can be a build up of dust, grime and other crud causing the problem.

Also, like I said, the connections must be *TIGHT* to make them work the best!  If your RCA connector just slips on and slips off without much resistance then they are likely too loose.

I cleaned it, tried multiple cables of different tightness, and nothing works. Its probably just i need a ground loop Isolator. It arives tomorow. I will report back if it works.
