GTX 960 or 970

Hi guys.. I'm new to the forum. I am going to buy a pc and I can't decide whether I should go for a GTX 960 or a 970. I have a 800€ budget but I can stretch to 900€. Here is my build:

CPU:AMD FX 8350

Motherboard:MSI 970 Gaming

HDD:WD Caviar Blue 1 TB

Power supply: Corsair CX600M

Case:Fractal Design R4 Silent

Cooler:CM 212 Evo

Monitor: Asus VS228H

I was going to buy an EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4 GB..But should I go for a 970 and if yes which one??? Or should I keep the money for peripherals???

I would go for the EVGA gtx 970 ssc or ftw. Or Gigabyte, Asus and MSI should be fine as well. 970 over 960 for sure.

Don't get an FX CPU! It will perform bad in games and possibly bottleneck a 970.

 

I would get a 970 ONLY IF you didn't already get an 8350.

Swap the FX8350 out for an I5 and get the 970.

It will most likely not bottleneck, it works good with the 290s!

 

Sure the i5 is better for gaming due to the more stable FPS and such!

With that cooler you could squeeze sum decent overclock out of FX 8350, then you shouldnt have bottlenecking issues with GTX 970.

I would go with EVGA.  I've had good luck with them.  I'm not too fond of BFG.

As long as what you want to do doesn't include playing GTA V or a few other CPU-heavy games, then yes, it'll do what you want.

Why no one thinks that the fx series is a pretty decent series... Logan from tek syndicate in some of his videos has said that in this price range the fx series is the best option... And this came from the mouth of a big Intel fan...

I never said the FX CPU's aren't good. They're just old. An FX CPU WILL bottleneck a 970 in certain games, one of which is GTA V.

 

Aside from that, they're 8 cores as well, with less single core performance than an i5. Games still prefer less faster cores over more slower ones. Even a low-end locked i5 will perform better in many games, which is why many people usually don't recommend an FX CPU these days, even more so because you're essentially buying into a dead platform. If you get a motherboard with an 1150 socket, you have a fair bit of CPU's you can upgrade to in the future.

So if I want to go for an Intel CPU which one do you recommend... And of course which motherboard.. Since I have what I would like to think a descent budget I think that 200€ for the CPU and 100€ for the motherboard are pretty good...

I'd look at the builds @Rampiks made, both are good choices, and the more expensive one will last you a long time.

 

You could also buy the one that fits your budget and swap out the H81 Motherboard for a Z97 one, which will allow you to OC in the future if you upgrade to an unlocked CPU down the line.

Unfortunately I also have to buy a monitor so I can't go for @Rampiks builds but I will consider his CPU and motherboard recommendations... Thank you all for your help....
