Would it Harm it?

Go to solution Solved by Lord_Karango17,

There is always a chance that something may short out, as the gpu does not have a backplate, and heatsinks are fairly electrically conductive. I would suggest placing a non conductive barrier of some sort, to prevent a short if the cooler does droop over time.

Hey Guys, I have a pc setup with a micro-ATX Mainboard including an i7 3770 an Nvidia GTX 780 and a Huge CPU-Cooler (Arctic Freezer).

My Problem is the CPU-Cooler with the Micro-ATX, because if everything is mounted the cooler misses the GPU by arround  1 Millimeter. My Concern is that one day the Cooler might touch the GPU, so im asking the question:

Would it Harm it?

And what can I do about it?

:(

Micro-ATX*

Would it harm the GPU if the cooler touched it? Maybe.

What can you do to prevent that? Cover either the side of the cooler that is closest to the GPU with electrical tape so no metal will contact the GPU, or put some electrical tape on the GPU where the cooler would touch.

Or wedge some cardboard in between the two.

Depends. Would your motherboard handle the stress of the heavy and bulky heatsink? This said that it won't warp under the weight. You could simply place electrical tape, or any non conductive material in between the heatsink and GPU, just to make darn certain it doesn't touch.
