iPad mini (1st gen)

Hey guys so i am after a tablet (probably seen my previous thread) but i have a $50 gift card for JBHIFI. Anyway i am needing to pay back a dirt bike so i don't want to spend more than $300AUD ($250 because of $50 card) Anyway i found the 16gb Ipad Mini (1st gen). I don't like apple, but i like their iPods and iPads, i would buy a mac if they were cheaper. Anyway, is this still a good device? Will it be able to handle games and daily tasks? I just want a good trusty tablet, that is fast and will last me a while.

There are cheaper options, but I have one right now and it has lasted two years of use.

I would recommend it for browsing, social networking or even "Gaming".

Yes Australian prices are Crazy, the sheild is like $600 over here....

Yeah its ok, but its spec is a little dated, shame you cant get the next gen model its CPU and GPU are way better

Well i'll try to get the second gen, just viewing my options.

It has 512MB RAM, don't buy it.

Does this mean it'll lag doing simple tasks?

Yeah .. don't buy the 1st gen Mini (it has an by now ultra old A5)

try to get a 2nd gen Mini (which has an A7)

i still have the 1st gen ipad mini but still it runs like a beast!

The first gen iPad mini is a really old and outdated device. It uses pretty much the same internals as the iPad 2, which is about 5 years old now. However, iOS 9, as confirmed today, will be bringing significant performance increase so the tablet will probably still be usable for at least a year. It's much better, however, to get the Mini 2 with the retina display and the much more powerful A7 chip.

iPad mini 2 with retina It's more money, so i guess i better shelve out the extra. Nexus 7 caught my eye though
