Hello all,

I was wondering what y'all do for a living. I was especially wondering the careers of those who build $6000 PCs for gaming and such. I am good with PCs and am open to just about anything.

Sincerely af19

follow your topics please.

Well currently I run a Tekkit Classic (Minecraft) server which gets me a bit of money, and also work as a theatre technician at my high school doing lighting and sound for band concerts, dance competitions, etc... it doesn't get me a ton of money though, I've made like $500 so far this school year... (Gonna make like $400 more after next week tho) so I'll be trying to find a better job that pays more. (Might apply at a PC Repair shop or two, maybe best-buy if they hire people under 18, or who knows where..)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

I'm a mechanical engineer. I do a lot of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. A lot.

How old are you? That will narrow down your options.

Damn. I think I remember you replying to my thread about me choosing my different engineering paths. I didn't know you did CFDs. That sounds kinda interesting/fun. Fluid dynamics is what made me get into aerospace in the first place.

Can you clarify for me about Fluid Dynamics ? It is about Viscocity Level  and the behavior of a fluid ?

I'm going to school to be a filmmaker. Currently I am working doing freelance film stuff for a graphic design company for 14/hr and I work part time at a coffeeshop for 10/hr. I'm hoping to make film a full time thing though! Money is far from everything though. Just do what you love, and do it well.

Stuff like pressure along surfaces, laminar/turbulent flow, and general fluid behaviours. Here's a description from my course.

It is very possible. I tend to be attracted to all the threads with anything to do with engineering. :P

It is very interesting, and it's easy to see your changes making a difference. I like that.

i am a manager at a grocery store at the moment.

I'm 14, but I just need ideas of what I want to be when I get older and what I want to study in college and where I want to go to college.

Currently a junior in High School but will definitely be going to college for something in the computer field. Hoping to go for Computer Engineering and hope to end up landing a job as a Computer Hardware Engineer. Just don't know what school to go to. I currently live in Indiana and was thinking about Purdue in West Lafayette but i'm not sure. They do have a very good computer science just don't know if they even offer computer engineering.

:o 14? Shouldn't you just be focusing on starting highschool and getting good marks first? Go where you're interested in, because in the end, it's the passion in your respective field that drives you to work hard.

If he starts planning stuff out then, he can select classes that the college he wants to go to will want him to have for the education he wants to pursue.

Concentrate on getting good grades in high school. Good grades will open doors for you in many directions.

^^^ I could not have possibly said this better. As you get closer to high school graduation you will find yourself more and more interested in a certain field. Once you have that figured out, look at good schools for that field. If you are thinking about this at 14, that is great. You will have an even more defined idea of what you want to do when you graduate.

Good luck!

That is excellent. Keep that up and you will be able to get into any career field you want.

When I was 14 I had no idea what I wanted to do, so you are obviously well ahead of where I was.

^this too lol.

@af19 You want specific, but honestly it's impossible. There's so much ahead that you'd have to learn. Just figure out your general interest. Is it science? Math? Arts? History? Writing? Just the most broadest thing. And work towards that. Once you're in grade 10, then you can start thinking which part in those fields you wanna go into. For example I loved science, but hated chem. and bio. I love physics though. Then nearing your senior year, you'll figure out which careers utilize each subject and from there, choose your university. Like I went into aerospace because I loved physics, space and math.

I'm a financial advisor.

Honestly there is a ton of careers that will enable you to afford a good PC. I built a $6000 pc when I was working as a sales associate at Future Shop.

Do what you love. If your only objective in your career is to make money then you will certainly live you whole live miserable.

There is more to life than a good PC and maxing out settings, and FPS counters. Find something you love, if it's PC then get into IT or something related.

If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking it's stupid.  - Albert Einstein

no jobs for 13 year olds so no PC :)

24 fps for that "cinematic" feel

After a couple weeks of behavioral sciences at my school I can easily conclude my parents need to grow up.
