Hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade (However much I don't really need it at the moment.), my 'upgrade budget' is £600. For that, I could get either a 980Ti or move to X99 and get myself a 5820K, but with only 8GB of RAM for now.. I know both are overkill, and the two 290's I have are more powerful than the 980Ti, but the temperatures, crossfire issues and power requirements are getting fairly annoying. PC Is used mostly for gaming, I do some heavy image editing too though. Won't be overclocking much for now considering I only have a 120mm AIO. (Should be able to get a H110i GT and more RAM the month after.)

Which one would benefit me the most, and for how long would either one stay relevant for high-end gaming?

Why do you insist on spending money on your computer? If you don't need an upgrade, don't upgrade.

Maybe get a nice monitor or a new desk or something. Peripherals, chairs. Who knows.

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Not sure really, but it's almost summer and two 290X's are going to be a real issue considering how small my room is.

Anything will be an issue in a small room.

A 980 ti/Titan X still produces pretty much the same amount of heat as a 290X

I'm aware of that, but I have two 290X's, and they can get up to 90 degrees already. Don't want to imagine them in summer

If your 290x matrix platinum's are getting to 90s so will any other card. That is a superb cooler.

There must be airflow problems or something

No airflow issues at all, especially not with my case and fan loadout. The problem is (apparently) that the Matrix platinum is designed for Nvidia GPU's, so not all of the heatpipes make contact with the 290X GPU. I'm not the only one getting stupid temperatures with it  :(

I know, but i'm planning to use some of my current components (Motherboard, CPU, RAM and possibly a 290) for a custom case i'm going to be doing for a GCSE project, so I thought instead of buying an entirely new system, I might as well change up my current one a bit and re purpose its existing components.

Is 'because I can' a good enough answer for it?  :D

I suppose so, i dont need a rig worth a grand, but im gonna build it anyway. I dont need to eat 5 slices of pizza, but i do. I dont need to go to school, but i do. you see where im going with this i guess.

Going from 24GB, what I assume is DDR3, to 8GB of DDR4 is hardly even an upgrade. I'm seeing that more as a downgrade.

I'd focus on getting something to cool those 290's, what about a watercooling loop, maybe even just for the GPU's?

Yup. There isn't much else I could spend it on anyways.

Whats your current setup looking like? you never know if you are missing something that might need a little touch.

It's fine for the most part, although if I went with the 980Ti I would definitely get a G-SYNC monitor later on.
