Iv'e had nothing but problems with powerline adapters because the wiring in my house is crap.

Iv'e heard anything motorized screws with it causing some kind of interference on the power lines.

Is it plugged into an extension cord?

Yeap.... But my brother who has it installed on a main socket also experiences disconnects

If your cabling is badly made then you should better have both of the powerline adaptors directly at a socket

I have a netgear powerline adaptor and it works just fine (even on an extension chord) that's because the cabling is good at my house :P

If possible go and try out a speedtest with an ethernet cord attatched on the router and then on the powerline :P

Also if you can go at a friend's house and try out if you have the same issues

I can think of three things that can cause disconnects with powerline adapters. The first is if there are surge protectors involved, so make sure you are plugged directly into the mains. Second is if there is a sudden requirement for electricity. Microwaves, kettles, chargers etc, can create the interference that is one of the more common causes of disconnects. For example, I can invariably tell when my housemate is using the microwave because I'll experience a signal drop when it is first switched on. The last cause could be general crappy, poorly insulated wires, and there isn't much you can do about that.

I would start by experimenting to see if there is a particular device or set of devices cause the drop in signal and then go from there.
