Hello, I need help with my build so I came here looking for advice, I am trying to make a gaming and multi-use pc with a budget of $1200 dollars and I would like it to be as powerful as possible. I was planning to use a:

i5 4690K 3.5Hz Quad Core Processor

Scythe Kotetsu 79.0 CFM CPU Cooler

Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Corsair Vengence 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Samsung EVO- Series 250GB 2.5" SSD

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD

Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX GPU

Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

SeaSonic 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

What should I improve on? What parts should add/remove? Any and all recommendations are appreciated, thanks in advance!

If you aren't going to overclock, just use a locked processor

But if you're planning to OC, here's a 4690k and a 980

Hey woolcave87 and welcome to the community :)

The plan seems good.
Gaming ultimately requires 8GB of memory so if you are not doing anything else that requires more, I would suggest going for 2x4GB.
The PSU is an overkill as, even after overclocking, you won't need more than 500W, but this would would give you more space for future upgrades and expansions. It's up to you if you want to add more parts down the road. :)
I really like the storage solution.
