So I have a question in a desperately want/need a graphics card kind of way....I have needed a graphics card for some time and got all excited with the release of the Ti...sadly that was not coupled with getting at the crack of dawn on release day so I am still GPU-less.

So I have been lusting after the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Hydro Copper...the out of stock hydro copper.  I have a custom loop so it would slide right it and fill me with glee to have a graphics card.

But today I am looking at EVGA's website and the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+...is IN STOCK. No water cooling but that is fixable.

My question is though the numbers are slightly lower on the SC+....

Hydro Copper

  • 1140MHz Base Clock
  • 1228MHz Boost Clock
  • 200.6GT/s Texture Fill Rate
  • 6144MB GDDR5 Memory
  • 7010MHz Memory Clock
  • 336.5GB/s Memory Bandwidth

SC+

  • 1102MHz Base Clock
  • 1190MHz Boost Clock
  • 194GT/s Texture Fill Rate
  • 6144MB GDDR5 Memory
  • 7010MHz Memory Clock
  • 336.5GB/s Memory Bandwidth

Will it be possible to clock the SC+ to the same place especially with water cooling?

It will be possible to overclock the SC+ to meet the Hydro Copper, yes. I have yet to see a GTX 980 that couldn't.

I would personally go for a Classified variant if you have the money for the better VRMs and board design that should allow for higher overclocks. If you don't care for putting on custom BIOSes and stuff though, the SC+ will be more than fine.

The difference in clocks is negligible and you'll probably be able to go up to and over 1400MHz.

The Hydro Copper seems to sit in between the superclocked and classified speeds. I'm waiting for EVGA to release the Hydro Copper as well as I want 2 of them.

The 980 Ti Hydro Copper will be $800 (as listed on EVGA's site)

If you read OP has a custom loop, so it comes with the waterblock already.

IMO if you can wait, get hydro to save $$, but if you cant, getting the SC+ with a waterblock is just as good. Just because they come from the box set to a certain clock does not say their limits in overclocking.
