My pc failed on me 2 days ago. After taking everything apart so does it seem that an o-ring between the GPU and the terminal was the problem.

The thing is that this system has been up and running for 4 months before it happend, so ether the leak was there all the time and it took this long to fail or the o-ring failed over time.

So far so dont it seem like it took any of the hardware with it, as everything works after it had dryed for 24 hours.

The only thing that is gone atm, is the GPU blocks, as I didnt have any spare o-ring for the terminal nor any way of connecting the blocks together without it.

Update:

Initially so did it look like everything was fine, but the motherboard now refuses to get into bios (aldo it did when I tested earlier). It displaying various errors, but most seems to be related to the PCI slots. The GPUs on the other hand, they work fine in my backup system.

The strang thing is that I get different errors when I switch to the backup bios. So ether the leak was bigger then I thought or the buggy MSI bios finally decided that it didn't like me overclocking (which I had problems with before bios 1.7)

Oh well, I need to send the motherboard in and see if I get it on the garanti or whether I have to pay for a new motherboard.

After 4 months! I'm really surprised by that!  It must have been weak from the start and only decided to fail now :(

You can open a ticket on the EK support page (http://www.ekwb.com/support/) and they will send you new o-rings.

For your motherboard, I suggest to let it rest for 24 hours with no power and then check it again to see if your problem is still there.

Its possible the leak had been there from the start, but it took this long before any damage happend.

As for the motherboard, it has had 30+ hours of rest and drying, so it should not be that thats the problem.

The strange thing is that it worked, when I tested it to find the problem, but decided to crash after I had put the system back together (and no, I have already double checked to make sure I didnt create a new problem). I'm more suprice that the GPU in question didnt take any damage, as there where hints of liquid running down it.

So yeah, I will be making a ticket to get new o-rings, so the terminal is at least complete. Not sure I will need it any more, as I might go with EVGA Hydro Copper on my 980ti's when I get them. I want more plug and play and less inventory with next upgrade. Keeping track of which parts go with what, is a pain. Specially all the screws, which is almost impossible to tell where belong, as they are almost perfectly identical.

It sucks about your motherboard :(

If you go with the EVGA C 980Ti, at least you will be able to sell your block with the fixed o-rings.

Sorry for all the inconvenience Chiobe

Back before I was a software engineer, I used to be in computer repair.

I can tell you that liquid damage, no matter the amount is usually pretty catastrophic. The fact that yours went on for an undetermined length of time is also more serious.

If liquid did actually come in contact with the GPUs/Motherboard, it may take a while before symptoms start to appear after drying. A lot of times symptoms of water damage can be random and only occur sometimes, while others are more predictable.

I would really closely monitor any components you're going to reuse, but don't be surprised if any or all of them start showing signs of instability.

The motherboard is being replaced and the GPUs will soon, as I was planning to upgrade anyway.

So I should be fine on that front, but that probably means that I cant sell them as planned.

I got a respons and they offered to let me buy the o-ring. Its not a big cost, but I'm still surprised that they didn't offer it for free, as they don't sell it in there shop. No o-ring equal useless terminal, so I guess I have to, even do the shipping will cost way more then the o-ring.

Yeah sadly I don't know how they handle their decision process regarding if they send them or offer to sell some.  I've heard both situations and experienced both personnaly too.
