What wrong with the number 1?

Anybody else notice Intel jumped from 700/900 to 2500/2600 with no 1000 series, I also seem to remember Nvidia started with GTX 200 and more recently AMD started with R 200.

What's up with the number 1?

It's similar to how things are priced 69.99 and not 70.00, it just "looks" better to peoples brain.

 

People are less willing to buy the "first" (number 1) versions of stuff I assume, etc.
