Samsung 840 Pro in Asus P6x58D-E

Ngrungebb91

Well, tax return season in is full swing and i thought I would get my first SSD for an OS drive! :) It'll be a 128gb Samsung 840 Pro. However, I have some worry since X58 is a platform from 2010.. how well will it run? Getting a brand new drive will be good for future-proofing also. I think X58 is SATA II. Anyone give any thoughts?

Anyone??? I heard that there is a performance difference between the Intel and Marvell SATA ports. Anyone have any experiences with this board?

You will be find. It won't perform as fast as it would with sata 3 but you won't have any compatibility issues. I have the same drives running in raid 0. There might be a difference between controllers but the drive is going to saturate your sata interface anyway so it won't really make a difference.

Plug the SSD on the Intel controller. Yes, the Marvel SATA-3 controller is somehow slower than the Intel one. (someone screwed up at Marvel on this chip... let alone had the brilliant idea of using PCIe 1x which is by default slower than SATA-3 performance)
