Hello! I'm currently trying to overclock the premium G3258 (I believe that's the right model number, it's the anniversary edition)

I'm using the stock cooler and used Linus' overclocking guide and at 1.25v and 3.5 Ghtz I'm reaching 80 degrees C!

I've looked on some forums and people say that they are reaching 4.0Ghtz and are at 50 degrees! My room is at about 72 degrees F and I have great case ventilation, what's wrong? Am I doing aomething wrong? Also I'll be overclocking the i5 4770k in a minute. Any suggestions?

it's the stock cooler. those are designed for the stock clock speeds. once you go overclocking you ramp up the temps accordingly, and a stock cooler just isn't enough!

a good and cheap replacement cooler would be the hyper 212 evo!

Most people use a liquid cooler, the stock cooler isn't bad but you have to look at how much you're pushing the card.

I've heard the pentium can be overclocked to 3.5 or 3.7 are reasonable temps withy the stock cooler. It's only a dual core. And It's for a client that doesn't want to spend anymore money so I have to work with what I've got friends. Has anyone overclocked this chip?

it might be that your CPU is just a bad overclocker then. or you could always check if the thermal paste is applied correctly. (just to make sure)

i have no experience with that CPU, tough i tried overclocking my I5 4670K with the stock cooler before and it just didn't work. it got immensly hot with just a few Mhz overclock. :(

You need at least an after market cooler if you're going to be overclocking, I would at least say Hyper 212 evo.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | CPU Cooler: Stock AMD Cooler | Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) | RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (4x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB Zotac Mini | Case: K280 Case | PSU: Cooler Master B600 Power supply | SSD: 1TB  | HDDs: 1x 250GB & 1x 1TB WD Blue | Monitor: 24" Acer S240HLBID | OS: Win 11 Pro.

Home Lab:  Lenovo ThinkCenter M82 Hyper-V Server 2022 | Dell OptiPlex 9020 Hyper-V Server 2022 | TP-LINK TL-SG108E | Cisco Catalyst C2960CG 8 Port Switch | HP MicroServer G8 SCCM Server | 2x Dell PowerEdge R630 Hyper-V Server 2022
