r9 290 vs 290x

I am seeing a lot of benchmarks that show the 290 losing by 3-10frames 

 

cpu = i5-4690k

 

mainly going to be gaming on 1440p

The 290x is a 290 with a slightly higher clock speed. You can buy a 290 and overclock it to get the same thing

I'd say no, it has a few extra stream processors and is clocked higher.  Unless you're going for an 8GB 290X, I'd say stick with the 290.

Wrong, the 290X has more stream processors.  They aren't identical chips.  Plus, the 290X can be outfitted with 8GB of VRAM, whereas the 290 cannot.

just a 290, a 5FPS difference when playing in the 60s isn't worth a 100$

Most of the new cards are just rebrands of the current cards.  The only new chips are the 380X, 390X, and FuryX (the Titan X competitor)

The new cards should still be better for the money

Assuming the 380 = 290x in performance, you should pay about the same (They aren't out yet, these are just wild guesses)

The 390X would be a direct competitor to the 980, so expect around $500-600.

we'll im probably going to be getting a gpu in about 2-3weeks so depending on their price points i will probably get a 300 series.

 

what do you think of the sapphire vs gigabyte cards (both 290 4gbs) ? which company(?) do you say is better?

If I'm comparing the ones that you're looking at... the Core clock is higher for the sapphire... and sapphire cards do a better job at cooling.

 

I also compare prices, at their highest price, sapphire costs more than the gigabyte one...not saying that price dictates everything but from experience, you get what you pay for.
