Hi,

From your computer to their e-mail server is encrypted , But the email it self might not be encrypted from their mail server to the person you are sending the e mail to, HTTPS keeps from a middle man stealing your packets between you and the server. e.g https://mail.google.com allows no one to steal your packets when you are on gmail. So in this case if you are talking about encrypted email to the person you are sending the email to, then I am taking a guess that your email provider does encrypt you emails.

I use gmail too and yes my email provider (outlook, formerly hotmail) uses the HTTPS secure layer aswell.

Hi,

Then HTTPS on gmail and outlook.com is safe and they do encrypt their emails. While we are on HTTPS, I only use https://encrypted.google.com/ and https://youtube.com . There is this site called duckduckgo which is a search engine that doesn't keep logs and that stuff but when search on it. Duckduckgo asks the website you are trying to enter for the HTTPS version. So yeah that is pretty cool, But for the final answer for Gmail and Outlook.com, they booth encrypt their emails.

Thanks for the insight! Yes I've heard of Duckduckgo before and also other secure networking systems that have somewhat similar or different protocols. The only two I know are TOR and Freenet which I've been reading about but never used them before.
