Users of Transcend SSD-s series 340,

 

There is a way to flash (update) the SSD firmware from SVN423b to SVN423c without having to loose the data on the SSD.

 

The way described on the international/english webpage of the SSD requires making a USB flash drive to flash the firmware, but that flash method is destructive - you loose all data on the SSD.

It describes an easy method to flash the firmware without loosing data and from inside Windows.

Just click on Attachments (written in Korean), download and then run the utility (Transcend SSD Update). I will provide an image of what you should click onto.

 

This way updates the firmware without data loss.

 

BEWARE - this works only for updating from SVN423b to SVN423c, if your SSD has an older firmware (like the SVN236) you have to use the USB flash drive (destructive) method.

Do not interrupt the flash process, doing so damages the drive.

I agree. But their SSD-s are really cheap and seem not to be problematic, good solutions for upgrading old notebooks (for instance SATA first generation machines).
