Pc upgrade or Witcher 3

Go to solution Solved by PapaGangster,

Hmm well from the feed back I think I may get the game first then do my upgrades a little later.

Hey guys, was thinking about upgrading my computer a week or so ago but after Witcher 3 coming out I kind of want to get it but If I do it means I would have to wait a little longer before upgrading my pc vice versa. Which one should I do first is my question?

My Pc specs are

AMD FX-8320 8 Core Black Edition Processer (stock CPU cooler)

Asus M5A99X EVO Motherboard R2

Kingston Hyper X Fury 2x4GB

MSI R9 290 4GB

Corsair spec 01

And then for cooling I have 3 fans one at the top, back and front

For my upgrade I was planning on getting

Noctura NH-D9l CPU cooler

ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 Motherboard

Intel Core i5 4690k

I recently bought a q6600 for 15$ for my brothers PC, overclocked it to 3.6GHz and It runs Witcher 3 on high at stable ~40-50 FPS.

I don't think you need an upgrade at all. Seeing that DX12 comes out soonish anyway and will probably be awesome for CPUs with lower performance per core.

If devs don't optimize for DX12 it won't matter.

Maybe try to get a good CPU cooler already. Most CPU coolers work with all CPU's, and it will really help with heat and throttling problems. But the rest of your desktop is good enough for a while, at least until the new Intel CPU's come out you'll be fine.

No point upgrading. Vulkan and DX12 will also give you a healthy boost. At most just get that noctua cooler and crank that fx-8320 up slightly to 4.3Ghz.

It's important to focus on the end objective which is playing games, otherwise you get caught up in benchmarks and end up wasting money for no added happiness.
