I'm looking for a new phone, since my Moto e is locked down to kit kat by my carrier and is also painfully slow (not to mention i can't install anything due to low internal storage being full of bloat), so i'm shopping for a new phone. The only ones i'm finding are the Moto X and the Zenfone 2 that are in my $399 price range. But my dad still has his old Galaxy Note 3 laying around that i might be able to use. I'm not too interested in the Moto X, so i'm looking at Zenfone vs Note. Both phones are borderline too big, in my opinion, but i can't find anything else decent (and unlocked) for the money that's smaller. the only issues i have with the note are that GPS is messed up because of it was dropped on the corner of the device, and that my dad might not let me have it. Assuming i can get it from him, should i, or should i buy the zenfone?

One Plus One is always a good option as it is cheap and very good

the cheap model doesn't come in the colour i want, and was out of stock when i last looked on wednesday. Not only that, but i'm just not interested in One+

Definitely Note 3. Better screen, better battery life, better camera, looks nicer, epic multitasking, S-Pen... Even if you were to buy it from somewhere else, I'd still take Note 3 for the same price as Zenfone 2.

He may or may not let you have it but you'll never know unless you ask

I loved my Note 3, but I needed money cause Hot Topic is opening in my city, so I sold it and went back to my S3. Was a really great phone, only thing I didn't like about it was that battery life compared to the OPO I had before it was nothing special. It's still noticeably better then the ZF2 however.

i would go zenphone 2.

Zenfone 2 was overhyped. Bought it thinking it was a worthy upgrade from my S3 but returned it the next day. Outside looks plain, screen looks plain, battery life is poor, camera is meh and can't make up it's mind on exposure, software needs ironing out as it's not the smoothest experience, ergonomic positioning of buttons is awkward

i would say the note 3 since they a close to each other in quality, except the note 3 will cost you nothing and even has arguably better software with the lollipop update

and imho the 64gb zenfone is not worth it

it was fairly hyped, but still is the best option at that $200 unlocked price

better than the moto g, but not as nice as the alkatel idol 3

Well $250 + tax for that price I can get some fairly decent stuff if I keep an eye on Kijiji

that is used and it would lose all warranty, you dont know what they could have done to it

for all sorts of things if you want to look for used you can save but is it always worth it

I've never had an underlying issue with any phone I've bought used, out of all the ones that I've had on my profile.

The only issue I've encountered is the SIM card reader not working on an S4 I bought, but the seller made me aware of the issue, and it was only a $10 fix.

I pretty much gathered that much reading Anandtech's review. The base model may be a great value, but the more expensive one competes with refurb M8 and 5s, both are better than it.
