Hey Folks!

I built a new rig in December 2014 ... now, half a year later i'm having serious issues with my SSD.

The first BSOD on that new PC I got in February, didn't think much about it, was a single incident.

The second one happened sometime in March ... Ever since I'm getting BSODs more frequent, having had at least 1 BSOD each week for 3 weeks now.

Today it happened twice ...

But before we go on, here's my rig:

i7-4790k (~9% OC automatically through ASUS mobo)

ASUS Z97-Pro Gamer

2x 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM @1866

2x MSI Geforce 970 Gaming 4G (stock speeds)

SeaSonic X-750

WD Black 3 TB (for personal files, movies and stuff)

and last but not least:

Crucial MX100 512GB SSD...

I'm pretty confident that it is the SSD that is causing the BSODs, because every time i get one, my PC boots into UEFI BIOS where it shows me the SSD weren't connected ... Thus having no boot drive.

When I power down the system at that point and turn it on again, the SSD is being recognized and everything works again.

I've run HD Tune Pro and it shows me that there is an issue with my Interface CRC Error Count, but look:

I've googled what that issue meant and came up with "a faulty cable or connector" ...

Seeing that my WD drive didn't have such an issue I simply tried swapping the SATA cables instead of buying a new one ... but that didn't help, the error is still there.

So i did another google search and it came up with a Firmware upgrade to Version M02 ... did that, still getting the same message from HD Tuen and BSODs ...

As kind of a last resort I contacted my retailer a month ago and asked them whether they'd exchange the drive or not.

They are willing to exchange it, however they wouldn't do so right away. They want to first "examine" and "test" the drive...

And to be honest: i don't want to give the drive back under that circumstances ... first i would have no SSD until their examination is complete (and i don't have the money to afford another one right away) ... second i fear that while they "test" (whatever tests they do) the drive no BSOD will occur and thus they won't exchange it ...

So let's wrap up:

this is my really last resort ^^ if you people cannot help me, i will have to return the SSD to the retailer in the hopes that I get a new one rather soon.

So my question(s) to you are:

1. Do you think that the SSD is causing the BSODs or am I completely off track?

2. Is there anything else I could try to get my SSD working flawlessly?

3. Would it e.g. help if I tried cleaning the SATA contacts on the SSD with 99% alcohol?

Looking forward to your answers!

Best wishes

Tobi
