G'day guys

I posted a plan a few months back that i expected to cost around $2000, however, now that I've saved up a bit more I'm considering building a somewhat custom loop with the H220. This rig is being built for university next year where I plan to do a computing course. Furthermore my friend will also be using it occasionally for video editing until he saves enough to build his own. And of course it will be used for gaming. The budget for this build is around $3000 which includes the peripheral and OS.

(All prices are in Australian Dollars)

The Computer:

Case

  • Fractal Design Define R4 (Windowed) - $155

Cooling

  • Swiftech H220 - $149
  • EK Acetal Block - $129
  • XSPC RX120 Radiator - $48
  • x2 Corsair QE SP120 (2 pack) - $78
  • Corsair QE AF140 - $25
  • Bitspower fittings - $65
  • PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LRT Tubing Black 3/8ID 5/8OD - $9
  • Not sure what type of coolant or distilled water

The Important Stuff

  • i7 4770K - $385
  • Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H - $229
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro (Blue) 8GB - $95
  • Palit GTX 780 (Reference) - $749
  • SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB SSD - $105
  • WD Black 2TB - $169
  • Corsair AX760 - $219 (BTW could I get away with a 650 Gold)

The Extras

  • Cable Extensions - BitFinix Black - $33
  • Monitor - Acer H236HLBMID 23in IPS - $195
  • Keyboard - Ducky DK2108 Zero (Cherry MX Blue) - $99
  • Mouse - SteelSeries Kinzu V2 - $29
  • OS - Windows 8 - $105

So now you have seen what I plan to do it would be great to hear some feedback along with suggestions.

Thanks

You could do with a 650w bronze. The gold isn't bad but don't waste extra money on it if's quite a bit more expensive.

The 780 is overkill for 1080p. A 770/7970 would be more than enough for any 1080p gaming.

If you do end up getting a 770/7970 instead, a 600w psu would do.

I'd bump up to 16gigs for the video editing. If it's only light editing, you could do with 8gigs and a 4670k.

No need for a caviar black if you already have an ssd. Save some money with a seagate barracuda.
