Decided to build my first PC since I will be going to university next year to do computer science so it will probably come in handy, also I've really wanted to get into PC gaming for quite a while now.

I've found some parts and was just hoping for an opinion or some better suggestions for what I've chosen since i'm more or less a novice at this.

CPU  - AMD FX-8350 Black Edition - at £111.99 this seems to be a lot better than any Intel choices for the money.

Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P - £100 ish, Really don't have a clue about motherboards tbh.

GPU - Either, MSI GTX 970 GAMING or - Sapphire VAPOR-X R9 290X - Both averagely cheap £230 - £250 ish and have pretty good reviews.

Power supply - EVGA 600W 80 Plus £50.46, don't know if i'd need more but it's not like I've got 3 graphics cards so I've assumed 600w would be enough.

RAM - Unsure since there are so many options, would just like 16GB

Think that's about it, probably just get some random HDD and a cheap SSD.
Also Might get a corsair H100i since I've read some good reviews and why not.
For a case I'd probably go for the fractal design r4.

Cheers.

I would highly recommend going with an i5-4460 + H97 over the FX-8350. The FX chip is dated and suffers from low single-core performance, thus it does not perform nearly as well in games. If you want to venture into overclocking, the i5-4690K + Z97 is a good combo.

Intel Core i7-5820K (4.4 GHz) | Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB  | 2x 360mm Custom Loop (Noctua iPPC) | ASRock X99 Extreme6 | Samsung 840 EVO 250GB | Fractal Design Define S | Corsair HX750 | Windows 10 | Corsair M65 RGB PRO | Corsair K70 RGB LUX (CherryMX Brown) | Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro & Creative Sound Blaster Z | Nexus 6P (32GB Aluminium) | Check out my setup: Project Kalte Here!

Get a Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 3 in addition to the i5-4690K, should be good enough.

As for your ssd, you might wanna check out the Crucial BX100 series. I've heard pretty good reviews about that series of ssd.

How about a build log :)

Thanks for all the comments, I really didn't realize Intel chips were so much better than AMD chips, didn't think there was really much of a difference between the two if I'm honest.
The best price I've been able to find on a 4690K is £157.99, unsure whether or not that is any good but since I won't be building the pc for another month or so and with me being on a bit of a budget I'm going to do my best to look around for any good deals on ebay, gumtree etc.
