Thermal pastry

Go to solution Solved by Altecice,

good to know then, any suggestion? the ones i found online didnt have the W/m-K specified.

I use a expensive paste made from Diamonds with an  8.3W/m-K

How much does good thermal paste really do?

I have some left over, and after unmounting my pc for mobo RMA i cleaned the stock one off the h110i gt.

what i have is:

Phasak

Thermal grease

outstanding thermal performance

silicon technology evolution

thermalconductivity: >1.800W/m-K

Thermal impendance: <0.123°C/W

colour: gold

Im dont feel and know that its really worth getting some fancy stuff.

1.800W/m-K is quite bad. The 'high end' paste are around 3W/m-K.

good to know then, any suggestion? the ones i found online didnt have the W/m-K specified.

Just because there materials such as diamond particles, does not mean it will have the best thermal conductivity.

The term, "you are only as strong as the weakest link" still applies here.

It is known diamond, AKA Carbon, has a high thermal conductivity...but they are suspending in other materials -- such a silicon / caramique / metal alloys in the paste. These materials will typically have a lower conductivity property than diamond.

Even though, it is advertised to have a high "Watts per meter-Kelvin" doesn't necessary mean it is good. The most fail-safe way to it actually test all the thermal paste, and compare the results (or look at reviews / test done by other people, and are available online).

Given that they are advertising it with a numerical value of 1.8 W/m-K, it won't be GREAT thermal paste, but it doesn't mean the Antec Formula 7, what @Altecice mentioned, is the BEST either.

Now don't get me wrong, I've personally switched from the classis Artic Silver 5 to Antec Formula 7 myself a few years ago -- have never looked back. I saw one of the local computer stores had Artic MX-4 in stock, and decided to grab a tube, and see how they compare versus the Antec Formula 7.

The Formula 7 is advertised as 8.3 W/m-K, and the MX-4 is advertised as 8.4 W/m-K. Both are indicate there are micro Diamond (AKA Carbon) particles used as an ingredient in the thermal paste. We will found out soon enough.

(I may do a little review with all the thermal paste I have in my possession; Antec Formula 7, MX-4, AS5, Corsair paste, Thermaltake paste.)

I tested my tube of MX-4 yesterday.

Using MX-4 dropped my CPU temperatures by 3°C; from 61°C to 57°C/58°C when stress testing on my AMD system.

It has been over a year since I re-applied my Antec Formula 7 thermal paste...so maybe it was old or starting to dry. Really, 3°C isn't much, and even a slight increase in room temperature (summer heat) will already negate it.
