Hello forum i am new to the whole SSD world and i want to migrate( as all asian do) the SSD market. However i am still confused at the do's and don't of an SSD i have in fact shorten my list into two type of SSD, the 850 Evo and the 850 Pro. I don't know which one is better and why the 850 Pro is more expensive but i am interested into to know why some SSD are "better" and some are "worse".

I went with the Crucial MX100 series.

Here's a thread on tom's Hardware about the 840 Evo and Pro http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1767466/samsung-840-pro-ssd-samsung-840-evo-ssd.html.

The differences should be similar for the 850 series. The Pro drives have faster read/write speeds than the Evo drives.

This page on userbenchmark.com compares the two exact drives you're looking at http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Pro-256GB-vs-Samsung-850-Evo-250GB/2385vs2977

The Pro has better performance, but that comes with the higher price tag

To be fair, beyond a certain speed, SSD's dont really make any appreciable difference. A 120GB cheapo AData or Crucial drive would be say 5% slower (probably not even that) than an enthusiast grade drive like the samsung ssd's, but still enough to give you a real boost in booting speed.

That's all you really need it for honestly, for mass storage, it would be a better idea to stick with HDD's, 7200rpm's are not bad for applications.

Oh, and, benchmarks really don't tell you much. Is 5 seconds really that much different from 3 seconds?

The two main differences between one SSD and another are the controller and the NAND (storage) chips. The NAND chips will eventually wear out from repeated write cycles. Cheaper SSDs will likely use lower quality NAND chips that will wear out faster. For normal usage, this shouldn't cause you problems, but if you write lots of data to the drive regularly, it may wear out.

Big DON'T: Never defragment an SSD.

DO: Regularly optimise the drives within Windows 8

Agreed. My first SSD was a Sandisk G25 128GB and WOW it was fast compared to my hard drive.

Right there with you, my first one was a Kingston V300+ 120Gb in a Macbook that could only use it for half its speed and it was even life changing.

After getting used to a SSD on my desktop, just had to swap out the HDD in my laptop out for a ssd.
