Need help installing new replacement HDD

Hi, I bought a new HDD for my PC because my older one is faulty and it should arrive in 2-3 days and I'd like a bit more knowledge on what to do when it arrives. It will be the only drive in the computer.
So, I've already backed up important files and things, and I know that I will need to remove the drive from the cage by unscrewing it on either side, as well as unplug the cables. Then in comes the new drive, plug it in, screw it into place... but then what? I know I'll need to reinstall windows, I've got the CD but I heard that you need to format the drive, and that's what I need help with. How do I do that? Or is it even necessary? If I need to download something onto a memory stick or something, could I have a link to it and instructions as to what to do? Yeah, I'm a bit confused by this; it's my first time doing pretty much anything with hard drives.

You can do the formatting and such when installing windows.

As @TheKDub said, Windows wil format the new HDD for you when you install it.

You will also need to download and install up to date drivers for your hardware. I suggest you download those before removing your old HDD and put them on a USB drive for easy installation on the new OS. This will most likely just be your motheboard and graphics card drivers (but any other hardware such as sound cards will have their own drivers), all of which should be easy to download from the manufacturers website.

Ok, so just to make sure I understand: I need to download drivers for my graphics card and motherboard, put them on a memory stick and after Windows is installed, install them, yes? Will I need any drivers for the new HDD too or should I be fine without having to download any? Will I need any drivers for my processor too or is that not necessary?

You shouldnt need to download any drivers before installing Windows these days.

The only drivers you may need is the network driver, if you have a very cheap low-brand motherboard, or an old motherboard (over 5 years old) which may use a network chipset that isnt common.

Your graphics and other motherboard drivers can be downloaded directly on the computer once you've established a network connection

Nope you don't need a Processor drivers, these are already included in Windows.

Basically, once you've installed Windows - go into Device Manager, and see what has a conflict and get those.

Other than that typically Audio & Graphics (and some boards raid controller drivers) will be the only generic drivers you need to replace with ones from the vendors website.
