I have an old iPhone 4s and I would like to give it to my dad, however i'm having some serious issues with unlocking it. I originally thought that jailbreaking would be enough, but Ultrasn0w isn't compatible with anything higher than the 4 and Its not worth spending money on an IMEI unlock or gevey.

Is there any way of unlocking a 4s?

id look around there are plenty of unlocking services around

i know that iphones are unlocked on apples servers (i think)

anyway here the message i got from three when they unlocked my phone for free about two years ago

"Following on from your request, please be advised that your handset will be unlocked in 24hrs.

We have attached the instruction on how to unlock your handset. Apple do not issue actual unlock codes; instead they unlock the handset over the air, which is then completed as per the instructions provided.

In 24hrs, please follow the unlocking instructions carefully, and only attempt to unlock your handset twice. "

the instructions there talking about is hooking up to iTunes and doing something

Heyyo,

I did an unlock through Telus... and sigh, Apple FORCES you to "upgrade" to the latest iOS version. I was reluctant as I would lose my jailbreak and I'd be on iOS 7 which so many people complained about performance issues. I was doing the carrier unlock so I could use it in the Philippines.

Surely enough? I tried restoring my phone and then hooking it up to my PC with iTunes... didn't work. So I regrettably upgraded from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 7.0.2... and lo and behold. My beloved iPhone 4s ran like shit and of course there's no way to revert back to iOS 6 on an iPhone 4s due to hardware patches Apple did to remove capabilities from people who saved their SHSH blobs once they stop signing ipsw's for older versions which isn't an issue on the iPhone 4 but the 4s is boned...

Then after sluggish issues I tried upgrading to iOS 7.1... and then I suffered from that damn WiFried issue! So then my WiFi was fucked after that... so I got rid of my iPhone 4s and bought an HTC One M7. Now I got a OnePlus One and am loving Android.

Moral of the story? you'll need the latest iOS version which will make the iPhone 4s quite sluggish... hopefully Apple's promises of fixing the iPhone 4s with iOS 9 holds true when it comes out... maybe even fix WiFried...
