So I have this question about memory speeds compatibiliyty.

I am curently running Core i5 661 , Asus P7P55 LX and Kingston HyperX blu 2*2GB @ 1333MHz

But I wanted to upgade to Vengeance Pro 2*4GB 1600 or 1866. My concern is my CPU, cause specs page didn't mentioned even 1600 as "supported speed".

Can I run Vengeance Pro at stock 1600/1866 or will I get some sort of difficulties?

Would I have to underclock it?

Here are links to CPU specs: http://ark.intel.com/products/43553

And MOBO specs: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P7P55_LX/#specifications

Also what are benefits from buying 1866MHz (9-10-9-27) rated memory  than 1600MHz (9-9-9-24), if I'm a gamer?

You should be able to run the ram at 1600 fine since the motherboard supports it.

Honestly the difference is soo small that you will definitely not notice it, even if you tried. Maybe in some sort of benchmark by for everyday things then no. If you have an apu then that would help, a lot.

cpu: intel i5 4670k @ 4.5ghz Ram: G skill ares 2x4gb 2166mhz cl10 Gpu: GTX 680 liquid cooled cpu cooler: Raijintek ereboss Mobo: gigabyte z87x ud5h psu: cm gx650 bronze Case: Zalman Z9 plus

Listen if you care.

Cpu: intel i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz Ram: G skill  ripjaws 2x4gb Gpu: nvidia gtx 970 cpu cooler: akasa venom voodoo Mobo: G1.Sniper Z6 Psu: XFX proseries 650w Case: Zalman H1

There will be no noticeable (probably none at all) benefit to getting a higher memory speed (if you're a gaming). The only advantage you would get by upgrading to this kit would be having more memory. Also, if your CPU isn't compatible with +1333, as your board is, you can just under-clock them slightly and try for tighter timings. I looked here: http://www.techreaction.net/forums/intel/6892-core-i5-661-ram-frequency.html to see if your CPU would use 1600MHz memory and I believeit will.

CPU doesn't say it supports it; how do you know it will be able to take advantage of it?

The same applies to Ivy bridge and Haswell.

Although the cpus officially support 1600 ram, they can actually run better with higher speeds.

I'm thinking the same idea applies here.

Got it, thanks for explaining.
