I upgraded my monitor situation from a 20" Dell running at 60 Hz and a Vizio television to a BenQ 2430T capable of running 144 Hz. I've been wanting to record games and upload them, so I purchased an Elgato Game Capture HD60 so that I could record my gameplay from the Xbox One, and it turns out that I can use it for recording PC gameplay as well. Great. I have my DVI-D cable connecting my graphics card and my monitor and I have an HDMI cable connecting the same graphics card to the same monitor. I'm able to play Xbox One games by switching inputs on the monitor to HDMI 1. When I want to do things on the computer, I'm using the DVI input. On the Elgato website, it states that in order to record, I have to duplicate my display. Elgato is listed as display one and my BenQ is listed as number two. Two is of course my main display. When I am playing Xbox, I realize that the HDMI is limited to 60 Hz. No big deal. But when I am using DVI and it's duplicated, I'm limited to 100 Hz. I've updated my driver for my graphics card, Catalyst Control Center, and my monitor. In the CCC, I can change my refresh rate, but when I try to go above 100, it defaults back to 100. I can go lower to 60, not 75 because it's italicized, and not higher to 120 or 144. I read online somewhere in a forum that the main monitor sort of sets the tone for the others, meaning that the others will use the main's settings. That's the way I understood it anyway. So if I'm using DVI to view and play, then I should be at 144 Hz while my recording is at 60 Hz, which shouldn't affect anything I'm seeing. I just can't get my monitor to use anything above 100 Hz.

I had an issue on my 970 where I couldn't set the proper refresh rate of my display. I decided to reinstall my drivers and everything worked from there.

I just got this PC earlier this month. First custom build. I thought I had all the updated drivers. I ended up installing a driver detector and it had a whole slew of updated drivers. I don't know how the drivers could be the issue. I can look for more updates though. Thank you for replying.

I never use driver detectors. You're better off manually installing the drivers from the individual companies.
