My first PC build

Go to solution Solved by johnt,

Please demonstrates me how the Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Dual-X 3GB Video Card is better than MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB!!!

The issue isn't so much that the 280x is "better" than the 960, the issue is that it costs less for very similar performance. I think you would do well to look into the 280 (non x version) because it's significantly cheaper than both the 280x and the 960. You would also do better to upgrade your motherboard to one that can support SLI/Crossfire and four memory slots.

That motherboard also looks like a micro ATX with very limited PCI slots. You have no USB 3.0. You're paying nearly $250-300 more for an over glorified console in a pretty large case. If you're going this route, at least look into a mini-itx board so you can have a smaller case and save on space.

Video card comparisons:

960 vs 280: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Sapphire-Radeon-R9-280-vs-MSI-GeForce-GTX-960

960 vs 280x: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Sapphire-Radeon-R9-280X-vs-MSI-GeForce-GTX-960

280 vs 280x: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Sapphire-Radeon-R9-280X-vs-Sapphire-Radeon-R9-280

In all three cases, gpuboss does not declare a winner. I wonder why!

Save your pennies. Go for the 280. In America, it's available for $150 on sale at least once a month.

Edit: I guess not America because technically that isn't very specific. I meant the U.S.

I want to build my first PC for gaming and media, the spech are here.

I have a couple of question:

Can i run BF 4, Crysis 3, COD BO3, GTA V, Farc Cry 4?

Can i make video and livetream in YouTube/Twitch?

Buy 2x4gb sticks of RAM rather than the 1x8gb you have now. Running in duel channel is much better.

Edit: What about a case?

If you want my attention, quote my post or I will not see it. I ignore builds that do not use PCPartPicker.

I'd change the GPU to a 280X since it offers more performance for less money then 960 4GB, and CPU to an i5-4440 so you'll have guaranteed compatibility out of the box with that H81 board. You'll also want a case, unless you're running on the mobo box.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($163.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-E33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($41.40 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Dual-X Video Card  ($229.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($38.70 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $652.81
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

1x8GB is better for boards with only two slots, since it provides room to upgrade to more capacity in the future. The benefits of dual-channel are not noticeable in gaming.
