My friends were saying my old Turtle Beach X12's were making bad static and other random noises in Skype. Most people said it was the mic that was on it. So I bought the ModMic 4.0 Omni-Directional and disconnected the old TB mic and i'm using the ModMic. About a month after I started using the ModMic my friend said it was making static again. Its plugged into the back of my motherboard and the audio drivers are up to date. My motherboard is an MSI 970 Gaming. What could be my problem?

Its not the mic. The motherboard jack is badly shielded, and that is causing static. MSI stuff.

Primary: Lenovo T61 / Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz / 3GB DDR2 / NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Fedora 22 <<<< THE WHITE KNIGHT

Secondary: Compaq Presario CQ56 / AMD V130 @ 2.3GHz / 2GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD 4250 / Windows 8.1 <<< THE FORGOTTEN HERO

What could I do to fix my problem?

before making those asumptions, try looking for another device, as I said, another PC or notebook.

If it's indeed your mobo, you will be better by getting a USB dac. A cheap one, no need to go fancy. $20 get you something decent for plugging your mic and headphones.

You should try to use your mod mic with something else such as a friends computer to see if you were just unlucky and had two bad mics. Other option would be to get an soundcard, since you would need a new 3.5mm port for your microphone and headset. Last option would be to return your modmic and get a  cheap usb mic.
