I am building my first computer and I've compiled a list of components which I am about to buy. I just wanted some opinions on weather this is a good build. I have some questions such as weather I have adequate cooling for overclocking and if the fans should blow into the case or out of the case. Also, weather I have too good or not good enough of a psu. Finally, I'm also wondering if there's any way to get a cheaper 1440p monitor than $300.  Thanks in advance.

I personally would Try to mate that cpu to GTX 980. The i5 is very capable and the gpu is the heart of the system. CoolerMaster comes with thermal paste, at least mine did. Also I would shop around to see what cpu/MB or cpu/gpu combo deals you can score. That being said its an awesome build and allot nicer then anything I am likely to own and still remain married:)

Cheaper than $300? You've looked at ebay monitors from Korea then? They use the same panels that samsung and HP use but in a much cheaper package. I got one for 400CAD, but thats about as cheap as it goes.

I've seen them but I want something from a reputable company that will last a long time. I know it's a long shot, and I'm going to see if Micro Center has any deals.

I don't have the budget for that, however, the reason I got the gigabyte gtx 970 is because it has higher performance and three fans, so I can overclock it.

I'll probably switch to that hard drive, but can 650 watts run the whole build??

That 650W PSU will power two GTX 970s and still have 100W of wiggle room...

A single GTX 970 only uses around 170W at 100% load... two of them is well under 350W.  the rest of your system won't even use 150W.  So with one GTX 970, your system will draw around 320W at 100% CPU and 100% GPU usage.

Hey Byte11,

What's the purpose of this build?
If you are going for gaming, 2x4GB of memory would be enough.
I doubt that you'll need more than 500W even if you OC everything and add a second GPU.
Everything else pretty much seems well planned and good to go. :)

It's nice to have a bit of breathing room. For solely gaming, 8GB would be fine, but i would recommend 16GB (I frequently go above my 8GB threshold).

Also, @captain_WD  my WD Black2 Dual Drive is pretty loud (frequent HDD spin-up noises), not too loud but quite annoying (louder than my old WD7500BPVT). Is it normal to have these issues

If I've said something wrong, please correct me

Hey :)

I'm also using WD Black2 in my laptop and I hardly notice it when it works. I can only hear a barely noticeable wizzing sound for a second when it spins up the HDD. Have you checked the drive for errors? I would recommend running WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool on the drive. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=oVDt3i
Also make sure it's mounted firmly on its place.
