Knowing about speakers and subwoofer...

IzzuddinFX

Hi, everybody. I'm interested in buying a 2.1 channel speaker... What I want to know right now is, what is the meaning of 32W,44W etc.?

It is merely the amount of power that the drivers need to be supplied. It has nothing to do with SPL output.

It is the RMS (root mean square) to speakers. Basically the true power/watts of the speakers

Not necessarily - he has not stated what the rating is.

I'm taking a stab in the dark here, but I would assume that if he is looking at speakers in general for an example the ( Z313 (25w) 2.1 speaker system). The 25w stands for the RMS (Root mean square) of the speaker system it is not the peak power or the max power of the speakers it is merely the true power of what the speaker system is rated at without distorting. That is what I am guessing he is stating as "what is the meaning of 32W,44W etc" So I explained the true meaning of what the 32W,44W etc actually stands for when you see it on products you are looking for.

Hi' date=' everybody. I'm interested in buying a 2.1 channel speaker... What I want to know right now is, what is the meaning of 32W,44W etc.?[/quote']

its pretty much the power needed for the speaker. as mentioned earlier, its the RMS and not the peak. theoretically, higher powered speakers sound better, but its not always the case.

Some specs are rated at different wattage ratings including peak, RMS/program ect - just depends on what the manufacturer states.

I would say use your ears, try any speaker out first, if at all possible.

without trying the speakers first I would look at budget, reviews, and size if there's a restriction.

Will work for electronic components and parts

+1 there's only so much you can glean from looking at sound graphs peak power continuous power frequency ranges.

after listening to decent headphones for the past 7 months I'm really appreciating my old yamaha computer speakers that I bought a long time ago and sent to my secondary PC

which is another thing to look at, is this a computer peripheral company or a company that is known for making high end musical instruments/audio equipment

just looking at them. the A5, but I would recommend a passive set, and look for a cheap vintage higher end set.

There are still some words after that statement.

I would think you would want to encourage RMS power to the OP, Simple reason being, Peak power is the wattage that the speakers are rated at right before they distort and blow, I would like to think you are wanting to help the OP and not encourage him to look at the peak power of speakers, That is not helpful in anyway. When someone is looking for advice that has little knowledge about speakers and wants to know what to look for, peak power is not the advice to suggest or have them look at. I'm not saying your wrong about manufactures showing both the (RMS) and (peak) power of any speaker, some manufactures do that, Peak power is more easier to the average consumer to get and understand then the definition of (RMS), RMS (root mean square)is what you should be looking at when looking for speakers not the peak power. I'm not saying you were/are encouraging the peak power of speakers but always, always encourage consumers to go off the RMS not the peak power

i personally don't like the A5's, same as the A2's. many people love them, and the rest think they sound far too muddy and dark

He merely said 32w, 44w ect - he didn't actually specify what the ratting was so it could be anything.

True I can't debate with you there lol :). I merely cleared up the fact that it should be the RMS he should look at, not the peak power, peak power is self explanatory, RMS is not, which intense could only mean he was talking about one thing, the RMS watts of speakers, which is why in my first post I explained RMS. I'll even put money on it that the RMS is what he was asking about, click on his links on post #8, the speakers to the link he gave merely states (RMS) no peak power, peak power truly speaks for what it is, that part is not rocket science but RMS will get consumers that don't know alot about speakers confused as to what it is and what it stands for.
