PS4 Audio Setup

So right now I am running an optical cable from my PS4 to whatever headphones I choose. I want a modmic that I can out on my K7xx's. The problem is I don't know how to hook the modmic up to the PS4. I was thinking just leave very thing how it is and just long the modmic into the PS4 controller. The only problem is that the PS4 might think that it is a headset and a 4 pole connected and try to output audio to it. Can anyone test this out before I buy a modmic and find out that it doesn't even work?
