Too bad you must have an optical drive. Why do you actually still use one?

Without the optical drive, this would be perfect:

For 1,011.60 USD you have a Lenovo X250 with i5-5200U, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Full HD screen, 6-cell rear battery (20 hour battery life).

Finding a decent laptop with ODD is pretty hard these days.

EDIT: also moved this to the appropriate section of the forums (mobile devices)

Builds and planning == stuff you put together.

General Discussion == anything which doesn't go anywhere else

Laptops are devices which are mobile, ergo laptops go into the "mobile devices" category.

OK, apparently it only has two USB ports :P

Then again, big advantage is the possibility of adding a docking station: you can put external monitor(s), keyboard, and mouse connected to a docking station on your desk at home and just use the thing as a desktop replacement. Might have to save up a while for the docking station, though.

EDIT: keep in mind. The 6-cell battery raises the laptop a bit.

And, why no Acer? Acer make reasonably nice laptops. Are you new to PCs?

There needs to be a VERY good reason to consider getting anything new.

Why do they say you need an upgrade?

Is there some application which you HAVE to run that will not work on a surface 2?

i just love the small formfactor, fast components and slick look :) but i dont know ether

Well are you paying for it? The Surface Pro 3 comes in MANY different spec lists and they go up to $2200 AUD....

I don't think your parents or you want to pay this much for a laptop when you already have a good one for school. I still don't understand why you need such a good laptop for school, I use a crumby HP laptop with an AMD A4-4000 and it's fine for everything that grade 7 throws at me.

For grade 7, there is basically no exclusive programs you need.

My advice would be to do this, wait until you actually in highschool, find out what you actually need, and get something that fits what you actually need.
