The 290 is definitely a more powerful card, but I am happy with my GTX 960 and have never had one issue with it. It runs many games in 1080p at high/ultra at 60FPS. It sounds like you would rather have reliability more then performance, and the 960 will deliver reliability, and decent performance.

The BIOS on the card didn't die. Something on the card failed or is failing.

Maybe you could flash a fresh BIOS? Are you sure it's the BIOS that's dead cause it seems really strange that a BIOS would just randomly die. Were you flashing it at the time?

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

All I can say is that that doesn't sound like a dead BIOS. BIOSes don't "die" like that.

Your card is still probably covered under warranty so I'd RMA it if I were you.

The fact that your computer is even able to boot up and that your card is detected in windows shows that it's not a BIOS issue your dealing with. Your BIOS is fine. If it was corrupt your card probably wouldn't even be detected by anything.

Make sure all your connections are seated properly. You should definitely look more into the issue, and RMA your card if you think it's a legit issue with the card you're dealing with. Your card isn't that old so it's still likely covered under a warranty.

Ah ok I see. So the current one you have is perfectly fine, but it's the old one that you RMAed that had those issues right?

What's wrong with AMD drivers?

Yes the current one is working perfectly fine. As for the AMD drivers games with super resolution have big black boarders like Crysis 1 and 2 also crash as well as Payday 2 , Far Cry 4 and even my web browser (chrome) when watching you tube videos (known issue)
