Hello everyone,

This is my first post here so if this is in the wrong place tell me and I'll move it.

To my question- I'm giving a friend my old rig its not terribly outdated. It's from when AMD launched their FX series CPU's and it still runs great, I kept in in great shape and I'm not making him pay for it since I don't need the money. However I kept the RAM for my new build and told my friend he just needed to order some RAM for it and he's good to go.

He ordered the RAM but he ordered DDR3 2133 sticks. The board only supports up to 2000 O.C.'d. So my question is will the RAM still work on the board or will he have to return them and get something else?

My guess is that the RAM will just automatically run at a lower speed like 1600 or something but I'm not certain. Or will I have to go into the BIOS and set the speed manually?

Still waiting on the sticks to arrive so I can install them and find out for sure. Still figured I'd hop on here and see what people say. Let me know guys!

Here are some links one for the board and one for the RAM he ordered:

Umm... two possibilities, either it does what you said, run at alower speed and be fine, or it does not work at all. I would incline for the first option, but you can't be sure till you check. If he can return it and buy some other supported ram, that be the best he could do.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

I'm guessing Newegg doesn't take returns once you open the package either....

Well if that isn't a dilemma I don't know what is lol.

Either open it and maybe it'll work, or return it and wait another week.....hmm

*edit-scratch that they will take it back if I open it, just need to keep all the packaging and stuff together and he'll have to pay the restocking fee. Heres hoping they work!

Also thanks for the info, Xaring!

Hello, you might want to consider the restocking fee and see if it would be cheaper to buy the ram that the motherboard supports or use the current 2133 ram. The ram that your friend is using will just down clock to a lower speed to match what the motherboard supports 2000 O.C'd.
