Hey there guys, So im embarked on a little project to upgrade my silly little HP Pavilion desktop, (me wanting to do this is a result of watching to many ltt build guides). So i cracked this thing open, and discovered after some tinkering that this computer has been running a WD Blue 1TB Drive, I want to upgrade this to something alot faster, because what do on this machine are tougher more system inventive things for school such as Autodesk Inventor, Photoshop CC, After Affects rendering i feel as if a upgrade is in play here. (WARRANTY IS GONE SO UPGRADE AWAY!)

Now me being me, I LOCKED ONTO a WD black drive thinking "omg I bet its extremely fast and and amazing in every way" but if im gonna pay maybe 180$CAD for a drive, I need there to be reliability and pure speed.

Here is a picture of my current drive:

I just need an upgrade for this machine, maybe some help on cloning the data as well.

Thanks :)

(EDIT) Im looking for at least 2TB of storage.. gotta put those renderings somewhere.

Hey there,

As it was mentioned, I doubt that you would notice a significant speed boost if you upgrade to WD Black. It would work faster (better transfer speeds, rpm, etc.) but for a real speed boost, I would suggest considering a SSD.
I could suggest an alternative: WD Black2. It combines a 120GB SSD with a 1TB HDD in the same drive. Unlike SSHDs, this is a dual drive and each portion is treated separately. You can put your OS and demanding programs and files on the SSD part and store everything else on the HDD part. For larger secondary storage you could get an external drive for more massive storage space and for some level of redundancy in case something happens to your laptop. If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
