contrast ratio

i have been looking at the Benq xl2411z, then i sow the contrast ratio and i wondered if that was a problem. 

should i instead go with the asus vg28qe ?

They are both equally bad at contrast and colours because it's not what they are supposed to do well.

Dynamic contrast ratio is just another arbitrary number with absolutely no meaning to convince you to buy the wrong monitor.

Depends on what you need from it. If you're a competitive twitch FPS player (as in Quake, UT etc, not twitch.tv) you may find that a 144hz monitor will make a difference for you. If not I would currently suggest you go with the Dell U2414H, and if you can splash a little more cash the U2415. Both monitors deliver stunning image quality, absolutely the best in their price range. The thin bezels look killer as well.
