Reviving an old PC.....

I have an old computer I want to bring back to life for my son, can you please advise if these components would be any good for him to game and his youtube channel. Like BF4 or crisis or COD.

MOB: Asus p8Z68-V Pro

CPU: Intel core i5-2500K Cpu D 3.30ghz

I'm thinking about throwing in a gtx970 GPU or should I go lower? Please recommend...

I also have 16 gig of memory DDR3 1333mhz laying around.

Sandy bridge is still a very decent platform.  The CPU will be fine.  It should be able to keep up with a 970.

970 or 290x or 280x if you want to save a few bucks going with the 280x. I'd personally get the 290x so I don't have to worry about encountering a crippled .5 GB of Vram but that most likely will not affect if it is just one or two 1080p monitors.

I would say go 8GB and get a good air cooler then OC the living hertz outta that 2500K

EDIT: oh, OP already has the 16GB.

Yep, I would've reccomended 8, but OP already had spare ram.

Stop regurgitating the same .5GB bullshit. #RAMGate is over with now. Deal with it.

Are you asking for a case recommendation or a mobo recommendation? If case, 300r/air540, if mobo, no idea, not well versed in non haswell mobos.

Well it is the truth, I don't want to put a little bit more money into a GPU to have some crippled VRAM in it, but as you can see I also destroyed what I said against the 970 by saying that if it is 1-2 1080p monitors there shouldn't be the problem. So take the Nvidia bandwagon out of your ass and enjoy the forums. It is facts though that the 290x performs better in more circumstances than the 970. 980>290x>970>280x>960. So get over it.

The mobo you have should be good enough if there's nothing wrong with it.

Not at all. You'll get barely any benefit for $30-50 extra. The CPU is fine without it anyways.

Let's not get salty.

The 970 vram issue is in the past, let's ALL leave it there. The performance between the 290x and 970 trade blows in alot of areas. We will leave it at that.
