if he can spend abit more, get a fx-8320. The cores will help in smoother streaming. For gpu get the r9 260. You can get a am3+ mobo for 50$ so that will remain the same.

I was going to do a APU crossfire between the GPU/CPU.

Dual Graphics isn't as good as it's hyped to be.

It works, but how reliably and for how long is the question. Why put such good components in a PC if you're going to heavily cheap out on the PSU which is the most important component?

I always try to get atleast 80+ Gold Semi/Fully when helping people, out. The PSU is the only part that can take down a whole PC with it.

Because its the best 1080p combo for price IMO. The powersupply is an evga 80+, so it's not shit, but for that budget, its still a great build.

The power supply got an 8.1 out of 10 on jonnyguru (7.5 performance, 8.5 functionality, 9 value, 8 build quality), so I'd say its not horrible.

Only mediocre and bad things they said about it: No headsink on bridge rectifier, and below average 12v ripple suppression.

Which for a power supply of such a low price, I'd say its not that bad.

People need to stop worshipping EVGA though, and stop using just the conclusion scores on JG reviews. JG takes into context that this PSU was meant for much lower-budget builds then this, and for those lower-budget builds it's a great option, but again, context. Like @DarkBlade2117 said, if a PSU goes down it can take a whole PC along with it. It is the most important component of a PC, if you can afford an i5 and a 280X, you can afford to pack a lunch for a couple days and save up for something higher quality.

I've got an i5 4690K and GTX 970 running off a corsair CX600M :P

Imo, if those oem power supplies from like 10 years ago that I've got are still running strong, these moderate quality power supplies will last at least a few years.

EVGA higher end PSUs are nice, I usually tend to go towards Corsair Or EVGA, sometimes SeaSonic, they got some nice ones.

4690K + 970 use less power then 4440 + 280X, and a CX600M is much better then the 500-W1.

In reality, I've stopped trusting review conclusions and actually read through all of them now. Because it's hard to trust those conclusion scores when the Chicony-made RM got 9.2 even though it performs WORSE then a CX, which is obscene.
