Do I need two GPUs?

I have three 1080p monitors and getting a 1440p monitor for gaming. 

 

Is this correct? using a 970 GPU if i run a 1080p and 1440p monitor the 1440p will be scaled down to 1080p graphics? or can I run two resolutions at the same time?

I will be using a x99 platform ( no graphics in CPU). So what GPU will equal say 4970K graphics for three 1080p monitors for work. Word, excel 2D charting graphics.

No it won't be scaled down. You don't really need another 970.

No the resolution will not scale down. You can run different resolutions if you want and you will be fine.

if you are extending your desktop, they can all run at native resolution, and a single 970 is enough for gaming on one 1440p monitor, assuming the other 3 are simply auxiliary displays and not being used for surround gaming.

You can run different resolutions. I use my main 1080p monitor for gaming and a secondary 900p monitor for Spotify and other small apps. Both monitors run at their native resolution and there's no scaling.

For surround gaming at 3x1080p, the 970 will fall very short of what most consider acceptable fps at high detail.

If you're only gaming on ONE 1080p monitor, or ONE 1440P monitor then you're fine.

I would get a 980 to be safe because you never know when you could get the four monitor gaming fever

Thanks for the quick responses. Thats good to no that one card can run three 1080p and a 1440p monitor. The Three 1080p are just work orientated. no interest in surround gaming. Thanks for the help.
