Former PC noob here with my tweaked and perfected (?) build for a gaming PC.
My budget is around €1200,- and I live in The Netherlands.
I will use my pc for general browsing and I want to play games on high graphics. Now I don't need to play everything on Ultra High, but High or Very High would be great. Heres my build:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 Boxed (no additional cooler)

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary

Memory: Crucial Ballistix BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU

Storage: WD Black SATA 6 Gb/s WD2003FZEX, 2TB

Video CardMSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC

Case: Corsair Carbide 200R Closed

Power SupplySeasonic G-series 650 watt

SSD: Crucial BX100 250GB

Monitor: BenQ GL2460HM

I also got a PCPartpicker link but it comes with a few notes:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hXNVXL

- The case on the list is the Corsair 200R, while I actually want the Corsair Carbide 200R, but I think these are the same?
- The memory I chose is the Crucial Ballistix BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU, but PcPartpicker only had the BLS2KIT4G3D1609DS1S00. Are these the same or do ''CP'' and ''KIT'' make a (big) difference?.

I won't be overclocking so no CPU cooler should be fine. Also I found out there are tons of different GTX 970 versions out there. Any tips whether I can get a better one for around the same prize?

As I said this is my first build, what do you think?

They are both the same thing, don't worry about it

If your not overclocking dont spend the extra money on a z-series motherboard, go for an h- series. also you should look at a 500w psu, 650 is overkill.  as for the gpu I personally like evga because of their customer service but their ACX coolers are just a little less quiet than other aftermarket coolers. also please follow your own threads.

To answer your questions at the bottom of your post:

- The 200R and Carbide 200R are the same thing. People just tend to shorten it by cutting out Carbide, and just saying 200R. Although I would not suggest this case, as I have it and the cable management room is not very big, and I struggle to get the right side panel on and off with all the cables up against it. I suggest that you spend $30 more and get a Corsair 450D.

- I do not know the answer to your second question regarding the memory, maybe someone else can answer that.

- And even if you are not overclocking you will NEED a CPU cooler. The stock cooler will work fine, but if your CPU does not include you need to buy an aftermarket cooler.

- I would suggest the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970, or the Asus Strix 970.

RIG: CPU: i5 6600k @4.8GHz 1.34v  CPU Cooler: H100i  Motherboard: Asus Z170-AR  RAM: Corsair Vengence LPX 2400 (2x8GB)

HDD: Seagate Baracuda 2TB  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB/PNY 240GB  GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970  PSU: EVGA G2 650W

Please use PcPartPicker, and paste the "BB" code when posting your build!

i suggest going for either a H97 motherboard, or an i5 4690K, because a non-K cpu in a Z97 mobo is just a weird combo.

and PLEASE get a decent cooler on there, this comes from someone with an i3 560 with a stock intel cooler:

the stock coolers are fine, until dust hits, and they go louder, and louder.

my 560 (w/ stock) is louder at idle than my 4790K(w/ dark rock advanced C1) at full load.

Change the motherboard to the h97 series. Are you going to get another 970 in the future? Your psu is overkill for that build.

Hey Wrench and welcome to Linus Tech Tips forum :)

This is a nice planned build. It should cover your demands.
As the guys said, the motherboard supports CPU overclocking and multiple GPUs while the CPU that you have chosen is locked and can't be overclocked.
WD Black is a great performance drive designed for heavier workloads and gaming. :) Good choice.
