Hello,

Beginner/noob here on building a self-made computer.

I am wondering can an Intel Core i7 960 LGA 1366 can only fit in a motherboard that is only LGA1366?

I'm not sure about the compatibility of the CPU and motherboard.

Yes they are all Unique :) The 960 however is pretty old, but it should still do fine. There are better options though :)

They are compatible.  http://ark.intel.com/products/37151/Intel-Core-i7-960-Processor-8M-Cache-3_20-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI for more info on it.

The number behind LGA refers to number of pins on socket and usually sockets are different in size too. There are some exceptions where you can cover pin to mod it for another CPU but I think those were older than iCores.
