Heyyo,

Damn young hipsters these days; don't even know the difference between AMD and ATi (yes the lower case " i ")....damn I feel old now.

More background info:

  • ATi was a Canadian company.
  • When Voodoo got acquired by nVidia, the former employees parted ways; some stuck with NVidia, and some when to ATi. That is why we have SLI and CrossfireX technology.
I know eh? I was worried checking this thread that someone wouldn't note the "ATi" spelling and not even mention how ATi was Canadian.

Bonus points for talking about CrossfireX as well! I still remember seeing those crazy DVI CrossfireX dongles before lol, crazy things... I used to own a ATi 9600 Pro after being seriously disappointed in DirectX 9 pixel shader performance for my Geforce FX5600 and then I managed to get a used 9800 Pro for cheap... the best AGP GPU. After that? Mine started to crap out so I had FutureShop (RIP) Product Service Plan so I got it replaced with the X1900... which was the biggest piece of garbage ever lol, offering maybe 75% the performance of my X850.. so then I rage quit ATi and went back to NVIDIA and have been here ever since... well, until the day I get a better price to performance deal on my future GPU upgrades I guess. :P
