1. Yes, Steam Workshop has Countless mods

2. Yes, You can add them or Steam can detect them.

3.No, only checks once you log in but the DRM is flawless in Steam

You can put mods on steam games in the workshop and the normal way steam does allow you to do mods Impulse gamestops's online distribution prevented me from using oblivions script extender. you can add games to steam that are not steam games but sometimes my games disapear for some reason.

1. As long as it's a Steamworks title.

2. Some retail codes can be used to activate on steam. There's a list in their wiki. Not all retail discs can be activated on steam. Discs that can't be activated can still be added as a non-steam game.

3. Barely noticeable DRM. Only really need Steam logged in to buy/download games, obviously. And any multiplayer components.

Guess I should rephrase that. Probably only needed for multiplayer games that are connected to Steamworks or Steam servers.

The DRM is not intrusive at all; I believe you can play without an Internet connection for 90 days before Steam will ask you to log in again.

The DRM on Steam is great or though the occasional game does require games for Windows DRM which can be annoying. They do also support mods so the only reason I would use a disc is if it was a very big file on a slow internet connection.

So, I've just brought a few games on the steam summer sale and it got me thinking about a few things.

1. Do steam games support mods, (I brought Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV) If so, would it be more advisable to buy the physical game?

2. Do physical, non-steam games show up in one's steam library?

3. Is the DRM on steam particularly annoying/intrusive (enough to buy a physical game)

1. yes, but with some older games it becomes harder to install mods, but they should still work.(RTW for example)

2. yes, you can add them to your steam library, but only for that computer, while any game you buy on steam can be downloaded on any computer you run your steam client on. To do this look in the lower left hand corner a button should say "+     add a game" click on it then find the game and it should be on your steam library.

3. That depends on what you call annoying. You need to be logged in to your account with internet or without(you of course can't go online or install games if its offline) to play any game and you can't really give away or sell the game(unless you can gift a game you have already played, but I don't think so)

so basically

- You can't re-sell a game or give it away once you are done with it.

- you need internet to go online(you could have a computer disconnected from the internet running your steam and one on, but you won't be able to play online together)

Chear up though

- If you get steam badges you can sell them(to get them just play games)

- and need I mention the Summer and Winter Sales?

- Also all steam games should be cheaper on the store then in a box as you don't need to buy the packaging

- and you are helping the environment(less oil needed and trees cut down)  ;)
